Physiol Intraocular Lenses

Founded in 1986, the intraocular lens manufacturer Physiol had its origins at the University of Liege (Belgium) and from the beginning has specialised in the research, development and manufacture of intraocular lenses for cataract surgery.

Physiols’ know-how covers every stage in the manufacture of an intraocular lens, from the initial design to the production of the implant.  It also extends to the chemical processes deriving from the study of polymeric materials including the modelling and risk control associated to materials suitable for implant in the human body.

The Physiol research and development department, which has designed many innovative products since it began operating, works in close collaboration with ophthalmic surgeons and in cooperation with specialised university and research centres.

Physiol offers solutions which are adapted to the rapidly developing surgical techniques associated to presbyopia and cataract surgery. Its most recent releases include:

  • In 2010 it launched FineVision, the first diffractive trifocal intraocular lens of the time, and the Micro A 123 and Micro AY 123, the first preloaded IOLs injectable through incisions of 1.8mm.
  • In 2012 it released iPure and PodEye, two anti-reflective hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses and Ankoris, a hydrophilic toric intraocular lens with optimum rotational stability.
  • • In 2013 it began to offer the toric model of FineVision.
